The CRC investigations into the swimming pool flood has established that it was due to a failure of a multi-port valve on one of the pool filters; this failure was abrupt, cataclysmic, and could not have been predicted. This happened overnight on a Friday and when CRC staff turned up for work the next morning the main pool had emptied into the basement plant room.
Following the flood, the plant room had to be emptied at a controlled rate over several days, due to higher than normal concentrations of chlorine.
As a result of being submerged in chlorinated water, all equipment for both pools has been destroyed. We fully intend to get the main swimming pool and the hydrotherapy pool get back in business as soon as possible: we already have engineers drawing up detailed plans to replace all the equipment.
We regret the impact this has had on our clients, their families, CRC staff and the wider public—all of whom benefit greatly from the facilities in both pools.
At this point, we have no definite timeline for the closure but estimate that it will be a number of months; we will keep the general public updated as information comes through to us. In the interim there are links below to other public pools within the general locality that may be of use to you.
