Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)

If you have difficulty communicating because of speech difficulties, you may need to use other ways to communicate. Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is the term used to describe other ways of communicating. These other ways are used alongside your natural communication skills. They might include signing, gesture, symbols or special computers to speak your message for you.

If you have difficulties in this area, therapists from speech and language therapy will work together with occupational therapy and ATSS to develop a communication system for you.
