Post-primary school

Students who remain in Scoil Mochua at post-primary level generally have complex physical and or learning needs. We encourage every student to improve his or her

  • Academic achievements
  • Independence
  • Maturity
  • Social skills

All students participate in educational programmes relevant to their needs and abilities and receive therapy and nursing support as required. The post-primary school offers

  • Numeracy and literacy skills
  • FETAC modules
  • Junior Certificate subjects

We have developed active academic and social inclusion programmes with local post-primary schools. Each student takes part in the development of his or her Individual Education Plan (IEP). Senior students engage in a school leavers’ programme over a 3-5 year period. This helps them to access suitable services for day placement, training or employment after they finish school.

In their final year, students are offered part-time placement in a training service where there is a dynamic student council involved in Green School activities, fundraising and after school programmes. Independence skills are fostered in several areas, including

  • Self-care and personal management
  • Mini enterprise and committee membership
  • Student bodies
  • Debating
  • Sports teams
